    Tamoxifen and periods

Tamoxifen (tam-ox-i-fen) is a medicine that is used for the treatment of breast cancer and endometrial (en-do-me-tre-al) cancer. In breast cancer tamoxifen stops oestrogen (a female hormone) from working in the breast tissue, this is called an "anti-oestrogen effect", which reduces the stimulation of breast cancer growth from the oestrogen in the body. Sometimes tamoxifen is used alone, other times it is used along with other medicines. Tamoxifen also has a couple of other useful effects in that it lowers cholesterol and helps keep up the bone density. It is not prescribed for these effects, but it is nice to know that there are other benefits of taking tamoxifen. While tamoxifen has been undergoing trials for prevention of breast cancer, it is not currently recommended for this. The usual dose is 20 mg or 40 mg of tamoxifen per day. Tamoxifen must not be taken during pregnancy, and therefore pregnancy should be avoided while taking tamoxifen and for 2 months after finishing taking tamoxifen (as it takes a while to leave the body). valtrex dosage cold sore Oceangirl654 wrote: I was wondering if tamoxifen can stop your period if you're as young as 41? I told my oncologist this morning that I haven't had my period for two months (I have done many pregnancy tests so it's not that) and she seemed very alarmed and said it's not normal at my age. But I thought that tamoxifen can stop your period- in fact, before I went to see her I was very happy thinking it was a sign that the tamoxifen is working. I have an appointment with the gynecologist on her urging (though I'd rather not go get examined again if it's unnecessary). I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if you had the same reaction from your oncologist, and what ended up being the cause. Tamoxifen is known to cause menstrual irregularities (including amenorrhea in some cases), so just based on what you have reported, I do not understand why your oncologist would be alarmed. Not having your period on tamoxifen does not mean you are now in menopause. 2018 Xeloda NEAD Apr 23, 2016 PM oceangirl654 wrote: Thanks for your reply! Your gynecologist can order blood tests of your hormone levels (such as E2 and FSH) to help understand what is going on in your particular case. I am beginning to think that my oncologist might be a bit hopeless.

Hi lovely ladies can anybody tell me if their periods were affected by taking tamoxifen. Also been advised to have my ovaries out at some point, has anyone else? The oncologist said I'd still have them but this last 3 months have been barely there - not that I'm complaining! Tamoxifen won't work on hormone-receptor-negative breast cancer. Tamoxifen is available in two forms: a pill taken once a day (brand name: Nolvadex) or a liquid form (brand name: Soltamox). If you dislike pills or you're having trouble swallowing tamoxifen pills, Soltamox can help make it easier to stay on your treatment plan. Most doctors recommend taking tamoxifen at the same time each day. — while you are taking tamoxifen and for 2 months afterward. You should not take tamoxifen if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or if there is any chance that you could be pregnant. You should use an effective non-hormonal type of birth control — such as condoms, a diaphragm along with spermicide, or a non-hormonal I. Ask your doctor which type of non-hormonal birth control would be best for you. Since its approval in 1998, tamoxifen has been used to treat millions of women and men diagnosed with hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. While an aromatase inhibitor is the first hormonal therapy medicine choice for postmenopausal women, tamoxifen is the first choice for premenopausal women and is still a good choice for postmenopausal women who can't take an aromatase inhibitor.

  4. You can still menstruate on Tamoxifen; I have just started again after a year with none and its heavy too, and monthly, so far anyway. A gynae check is often considered, but after checking hormone blood levels, my onc elected not to do gynae check. When you google, menstruating whilst on Tamoxifen is common, it seems.

Major finding: The sensitivity of the pred-test for a diagnosis of RA was 0.6 (95% CI, 0.5-0.8) and the specificity was 0.8 (95% CI, 0.7-0.9). Data source: A pilot study of 20 mg of prednisolone for 3 days in 30 patients with established RA or OA followed by a validation study of the test in 95 patients with pain in their fingers and hands but without a clear diagnosis. A short course of prednisolone may help rheumatologists differentiate between patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, a proof of concept study shows. However, the investigators caution that a positive response to the 3-day steroid course does not confirm a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). For many years, rheumatologists have been using short courses of prednisolone in unclear clinical situations to differentiate between inflammatory and non-inflammatory arthritis, according to the investigators led by involved 15 patients with confirmed osteoarthritis and 15 with rheumatoid arthritis who were given 1 g of paracetamol (acetaminophen) a day for 5 days, and on days 3-5, they were given a 20-mg dose of prednisolone (). Results showed that the patients with RA had greater improvements in their pain scores (0-10 on a numerical rating scale), compared with OA patients. The mean percentage improvement in pain scores at day 5 was 52.3% in the RA group and 22.0% in the OA group.
