If you are taking Plaquenil to treat an inflammatory condition or malaria, you should be aware of the side effects that may occur to your eyes and vision. Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is in a class of drugs called disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, which are used to decrease inflammation, pain and joint damage. Severe depression and anxiety, overall itching, pain and stiffness increased instead of decreased First, my mother and sister took plaquenil for lupus with good effect, so I am not just disliking it for no good reason. I also suffer from disabling bipolar disorder. For 25 years, I have gotten hypomanic during spring. Very happy, never depressed. Plaquenil and Rashes - from FDA reports Summary Rashes is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for 1 month, also take medication Enbrel, and have Pain.

I've been on it for 10 months and I noticed within a couple of weeks that I was pretty itchy. Has anyone else noticed that plaquenil makes them itch?

  5. Aug 26, 2016 I started on Plaquenil this Jan2014 but my itching scalp problem started in 2012. The same time when early signs of SLE started too. Recently, while getting my hair washed by a hair stylist, who had earlier commented I had major scalp problem, I googled and read that for chronic illness patients, bad scalp and dandruff condition is a norm.

For what it's worth, I've been taking generic plaquenil for about 5 years now. Early on, I had an itchy rash break out on my forearms, and my doctor had me stop the plaquenil. Within 4 days, my joint pain returned with a vengance, and I was begging for the plaquenil, itchy rash and all, lol. Over the ensuing years, I've had occasional rashes. I had been taking plaquenil since April for my lupus and sjogrens. It was working really well and just recently my rheumy told that I was in remission. I felt great. Then I had an allergic reaction to the plaquenil - a rash all over my body, neck, arms and legs. I stopped taking it 1 week ago. Ok, I just started taking Plaquenil 7 days ago and I just realized I am really really itchy. I looked down at my arms and I have red and white blotchy areas on my forarms. I am starting to itch in my scalp, back, stomach, face and arms now. I think this rash is just starting, so I don't know if it will develope into hives or what.
