The most common adverse effects are a mild nausea and occasional stomach cramps with mild diarrhea. For short-term treatment of acute malaria, adverse effects can include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, heart problems, reduced appetite, headache, nausea and vomiting.

It wasn't as severe as it was when I was a child until I started Plaquenil. When I started Plaquenil almost 2 months ago I assumed the GI issues were a side effect and it would eventually go away but it hasn't. I'm going to bring it up to my rheumy when I see him.
